History:

1) The first experimental influenza vaccines were developed in the 1930s using embryonated eggs. The technique was pioneered by Australian virologist Sir Frank Macfarlane Burnet, who first attempted to grow animal viruses in eggs in 1932–3.

The US military developed the first approved inactivated influenza vaccines in the 1940s, which were used during World War II.Today, about 90% of influenza vaccines are made using egg-based technology.

2) The first vaccine for rabies to be developed for human use was the purified duck embryo vaccine (PDEV), which was created in 1957. The PDEV was made from dried, killed rabies virus and was administered through a series of injections over multiple days. The World Health Organization still recommends the PDEV, but newer vaccines are more commonly used.
